How to Know If It's Time for a New Residential Garage Door

Posted on

If you have a garage, it is important for you to make sure that you are taking the time to occasionally inspect its door. You want to make sure that you are going to be well aware of when it is time to call to set up a residential garage door installation appointment. The longer you wait, the more likely it is that the condition of the garage door is just going to get a lot worse. You want to avoid that from happening by knowing the signs that it's time to call for a replacement garage door, such as the following:

You See Light Shining Through

Sure, if you have some little windows in the garage door, light can and will shine through those at times. What you do not want to happen is for sunlight to start shining through the other panels of the door or along the top, sides, or bottom where everything should be a tight fit. If the garage door is getting up there in age, it could warp, crack, or break apart and the little traces of sunlight shining through will be one of the first indicators of that.

The Door Is Not Closing Properly

You need the garage door to close properly so that the bottom rests against the driveway or pavement. If one side sits lower than the other, there is a problem. You could also start to find that you have to move the door up and then down, and then maybe back up a little before taking it all the way down before the door begins to move smoothly. This should not happen and it is a sign that the garage door is probably in need of being replaced. Your garage door contractor can take a close look to confirm the problem.

By taking a little time to inspect the condition of your garage door, you will be able to catch signs of trouble quickly. Even if the garage is not a part of your property that you use a lot, you still want to make sure that its door functions well. After all, you never know when you will need to start parking vehicles in there or when you need to use it for storing new things. You also want to make sure that the garage is not so unsightly that it pulls down the value of your home or damages its curb appeal.
